1. Brush Your Teeth Thoroughly

  • Brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes with fluoride toothpaste before going to bed. This removes food particles, plaque, and bacteria that accumulated during the day.

2. Floss Before Bed

  • Flossing removes food and plaque between teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach. Throughout the day food and plaque build up and it is essential to floss and get rid of this buildup to prevent cavities and gum disease.

3. Rinse with an Antibacterial Mouthwash

  • Use an antibacterial mouthwash with fluoride that is designed to kill bacteria and strengthen enamel. This provides extra protection by reducing bacteria that cause decay and bad breath while you sleep.

4. Avoid Late-Night Snacking

  • Always brush your teeth after snacking. If you do snack we recommend you brush again or at the very least rinse your mouth. Leaving these sugars in your mouth overnight can lead to cavities and tooth decay especially if it is happening often.

5. Stay Hydrated

  • Drink water before bed to keep your mouth hydrated and support saliva production, which naturally helps protect teeth. If the air is dry or you find yourself experiencing dry mount, try using a humidifier during the night.

Bonus Tip: Wear a Night Guard if Needed

  • If you grind your teeth at night, a custom-fitted night guard can protect your teeth from wear and prevent damage and help you get better sleep. If you have had braces or invisalign you should be sleeping with your retainer every night to prevent moving.
